Last Saturday I finally witnessed with my own bared eyes ~
What's all about dance, especially the ballroom dancing!
After taking breakfast around Sg.Wang there, we went back to Berjaya Time Square Shopping Mall to grab a nice spot to watch the competition.
It's the first event in Asia, by The Dance Space, to bring together a wide variety of dance forms under one roof - from Hip Hop, Tap, Capoeira, Break-dancing, Jazz, Latin, Ballroom, Salsa......and more which I missed. Actually there were performances and workshops during last weekdays but I cannot or not dare to take leaves to join. So just making myself available for that morning competition.
At first the competition started with the ballroom dance standard competition, from under 12 years old level to International open level. It included five dances: The Waltz, Tango, Foxtro, Viennese Waltz and Quicksteps. This also refered to as the Smooth/Ballroom style of dance, are flowing dances that move around the entire dance floor in a counter-clockwise fashion. The couples were constantly moving on the dance floor, smoothly transitioning from pattern to pattern. The way they moved along the music flows really touched my heart.
Around afternoon, they started with the Middle East Dance - Belly Dancing. It is the traditional dance form that has been kept a secret for centuries in the harems of Arabia. A mysterious and sensuous dance, which will bring out the woman in you. Although only six contestants for intermediate and advanced level, but still the ladies have impressed the crowd.
Later on, they followed with the Hip Hop Dance, which is a street style of dancing that has gained popularity all around the world. I was so exciting to watch this competition, as my friend's team was one of the competing teams - Evo-i! We found out that all the teams are really talented with those "high-end" skills. What surprised us was the last team of this Hip Hop Dance competition - The Super Duper Juniors! The team of two little boys and two little girls did their dance very well until the crowd cheered for them.
After this popular dance, we have to go back as it's 2.30pm and we haven't take our lunch. So we have missed the Shuffle (lately starts popular in Malaysia) and the Latin Dance competition, which considered as the second type of ballroom dance. The Latin dances pretty much stay in one spot on the dance floor. They are energetic dances that reflect the syncopated rhythm of the music being danced to. This included Swing, Rumba/Bolero, Cha Cha, Salsa/Mambo, Merengue, Disco/Hustle, Samba and Paso Doble.
Luciky, my friends still staying there to watch the Latin Dance competition. I hope they do have video record for that! (Oh! Please... Please...)
That night they have Gala Night dinner to continue the Final Competition of all categories. Due to tight budget, I didn't buy ticket to join the dinner. Anyway, it should be a wonderful night.
After witnessed this ballroom dancing competition, they have given me more and more motivation to catch training for this "Smooth Type of Dance". If I could make it, I'll continue to go for the "Rhythm Style of Dance". Hahaha~Don't worry! I'll update you guys about it. Check it out!
